Progress Clocks
Progress clocks are a visual tool used in Blades in the Dark and other Forged in the Dark games to track progress, tension, or approaching danger.
What Are Clocks?
Clocks are circles divided into segments (typically 4, 6, or 8). As segments fill in, they represent ongoing processes in the game world: a countdown to disaster, progress toward a goal, escalating danger, or other developing situations.
When to Use Clocks:
- Progress Clocks - Track advancement toward a goal (picking a lock, searching a building)
- Danger Clocks - Show mounting danger or dwindling time
- Faction Clocks - Track progress of faction goals in the background
- Project Clocks - Track long-term projects during downtime
Using the Clock Widget:
- Enter a name for your clock and choose how many segments it has (4, 6, or 8)
- Optionally add a category (e.g., "Faction," "Danger," "Project") and notes
- Use the "+1" button to advance the clock as appropriate during play
- Use "Reset" to clear all segments or "Delete" to remove the clock entirely
Session Planner
The Session Planner helps you organize your game sessions with tools for scenes, NPCs, and locations.
Session Outline:
Break your session into key scenes or story beats. For each scene, you can define:
- Scene title and type (Action, Social, Investigation, etc.)
- Description of what happens in the scene
- Location where the scene takes place
- Key NPCs present in the scene
NPC Tracker:
Keep track of important non-player characters with details like:
- Name and role/position
- Notes about appearance, personality, and motivations
Location Details:
Document important locations in your game world:
- Name and type of location
- Description, atmosphere, and key features
Character Management
Create and manage characters for different game systems.
Creating Characters:
- Use the system-specific character creation forms (Blades in the Dark or Apocalypse World)
- Fill in character details, attributes, and abilities
- Saved characters appear in the Characters list
Character Sheets:
- Each character has their own interactive sheet for use during gameplay
- Track XP, harm, gear, abilities, and other character details
- Make updates during play to keep your sheet current
